O1: Persons of Extraordinary Ability

O visas allow admission of persons with extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, education, business and athletics, or extraordinary achievement in motion picture and television production, & essential support personnel.

Applicants must demonstrate national or international recognition of major award in the field. Applicants can show significant national or international recognition by:

1. Receipt of a nationally recognized prize or award;
2. Published material like reviews or articles about the alien in newspapers, magazines, or other publications;
3. Admission to associations that require outstanding achievements of their members in the field of expertise;
4. Participate as a judge for works of others in the field;
5. Making of an original, scientific, scholarly or business related contribution of major significance in the field;
6. Publication of scholarly articles in the field;
7. Employment with renowned organizations in a critical or essential capacity;
8. Performance of a lead, starring or critical role for a distinguished organization;
9. Achievement of major commercial or critically acclaimed success;
10. Attaining significant recognition from organizations, critics, recognized experts in the field or by government agencies;
11. Other materials that support the demonstration of such recognition.

The O-1 may be extended in increments indefinitely. Family members, spouses and unmarried children under 21 may obtain an O-2. They are permitted to be in the U.S. for the duration of the principal, but they may not work. Support staff of the applicant may accompany the principal provided there has been a preexisting and long-standing relationship.
